Description
To the best of my knowledge, this is a high-quality REPLICA Japanese Imperial Navy Officer's Dirk (Dagger). It is in excellent condition and the fit is tight. The blade measures 10 3/4' long measured from the habaki, is chrome finished and the tip is perfectly pointed. It has no nicks or chips.
The fittings on the hilt and the saya (scabbard) are brass and nicely detailed with leaf patterns with cherry blossoms (five pedals). The black saya is covered in lacquered leather. The grip is tightly brass wire wrapped over a pebbled white skin.
This dirk is very similar to Police Officer and Fire Brigade dirks dating from the late 1800s to World war II. The brass fittings are beautifully patinated and the dirk has an impressive aged finish overall. This dirk likely was manufactured by DENIX, a Spanish manufacturing company which is famous for quality replicas of antique weapons. This dirk would be ideal for historical reenactments and displays. Model 1886-1945. [Any information or opinions in this regard are welcomed].
