Description
15th-16th century, early renaissance or transitional period. The left hand dagger or Main Gauche was used as a parrying weapon in the opposite, from your sword hand. Blade is hexagonal in cross section with 2 deep fullers. There are several sets of piercings in the fullers. I believe that the blade originally extended to a needle point & has been re-tipped. Long down turned quillons with acorn finials. Dot & line decorations on counter guard. Spiral carved hardwood grip & octagonal pommel. All parts are tight. 23" overall. 17 3/4" blade, 7/8" wide at guard. No ricaso. Quillons 5 1/4" across.See more pictures at gunbroker dot com.
