    "Peoples Republic of Bulgaria
    ". A National Bank Issue, it was released in, and is dated, 1951.
    Because of an agreement between Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin, made at Yalta near the end of World War II,

    in Bulgaria fell to the Russians and a communist
    "Peoples Republic"
    came into being in 1946. Communism lasted until 1990. Bulgaria joined NATO in 2004 and the European Union in 2007.
