Description
This is a 13th-14th century medieval knights dagger with later replaced grips. Large pommel appears round, but is actually octagonal. Deep concaved centers on both sides. Cross guard quillons are also concaved. Incised steel, straps? Along either side of the tang. These could be straps, welded to the cross guard, then attached to the tang as reinforcement. It's very solid, heavy in the hilt. Balance point is at the guard, almost back to the grip side edge. Grip plaques are a natural material. Could have been replace anywhere from 16th to 18th century or even later. Even with its nicks, and a few bites out of it, the blade is still strong and pretty sharp. Everything is good and tight.Overall length 17 1/2", blade 12", cross guard 5", pommel 1 1/2" diameter. 1 Lb. 2 oz.
